Application

Sillimanite an aluminosilicate mineral with high alumina content and finds applications in a variety of industries like:
Sillimanite refractories cut into various shapes and sizes or made out of bonded particles are used in industries like cement, ceramics, glass-making, metal smelting, refinery and treatment, tar distillation, coal carbonisation, chemicals manufacture and foundries.
Sillimanite is resistant to glass slag and hence widely used as lining material in glass melting furnace. Arima Presill , a premium sillimanite product with high alumina content (>60% Al₂O₃) , high mechanical strength, low thermal expansion and good resistance to spalling, thermal shock & chemical corrosion makes it a reliable product for refractory and foundry applications.
Appreciable quantity of Sillimanite powder mixed with high-grade China-clay is used in manufacture of spark plugs and other insulating materials required at high voltages.
